EDWARD SUZUKI ASSOCIATES
After graduating from Harvard with a Master of Architecture in Urban Design degree and serving my apprenticeship years at Buckminster Fuller/Sadao and Kenzo Tange’s offices, I began my own practice in 1977.
As much as I love my profession of architecture, I love physics and science in general, because they are basically pursuits of the workings of Nature.
I have come to call Nature and our Universe GOoD DESIGN, and considering it as God’s greatest masterpiece of architecture, I try to incorporate the basic rules and principles thereof into creating my “peace of architecture.”
One of my mentors, Buckminster Fuller, once mentioned that “If poetry is saying the most with the least amount of words, then the greatest poet in history must be Einstein. Why? Because he summed the whole Universe in E=Mc2.”
E=Mc2 is poetry, and GOoD DESIGN is pure poetry. GOoD DESIGN is simple and beautiful. It is ecological and economical.
GOoD DESIGN is universal, as music is. Just as music touches our hearts beyond political boundaries and languages, GOoD DESIGN touches our hearts wherever and whenever.
It is this music of GOoD DESIGN that I wish and strive to pursue in my architecture so that I may, as one small and almost insignificant individual in this world, could make a difference.
